Japanese companies promote new technology to restore barren farmland

(MENAFN) Japanese firms are introducing new technologies aimed at revitalizing degraded farmland during the 30th annual UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) taking place in Brazil.

The 11-day event, held in the city of Belem, features a Japan Pavilion where companies are highlighting innovations designed to help combat global warming, according to reports on Tuesday.

COP30, which began on Monday, brings together representatives from numerous countries and international organizations to discuss global climate action.

At a seminar hosted Tuesday at the Japan Pavilion, participants were introduced to a technology that restores barren farmland and grasslands by using specialized fertilizers and soil-improving materials. This approach is expected to reduce the need for deforestation to create new agricultural land, according to reports.

Nine Japanese companies are participating in the conference to present their latest environmental technologies. Among the exhibits was a material designed to cool indoor environments by reflecting sunlight and dispersing heat.

Kijima Yuto of the Japanese company Spacecool said: “As global temperatures rise, all countries are facing the same problem of people feeling the heat. Demand for these cooling technologies will grow.”

Another exhibit featured an early-warning system that detects potential wildfires through the use of satellite data and ground-based sensors, showcasing Japan’s growing focus on climate resilience and sustainable technology.
